The Youth Advisory Board is a young people’s participation project based in St Basils homelessness services in Birmingham. The young people involved have designed and created a Peer Education Programme to share skills in music production, media and dance. The £500 award will be used to promote and run a series of 12 Peer Education workshops.
SPARC: £500
SPARC is the Society for the Promotion and Advancement of Romany Culture, an organisation run by and for Gypsies and Travellers. Based in the Tees Valley, SPARC run cultural awareness courses for local authorities and other interested groups. The £500 received will enable three members of SPARC to attend and run a stall at the Epsom Fair. This important outreach opportunity will raise awareness and promote the work SPARC does for Gypsy and Travellers.
Stardance: £500
Stardance are a multi-ethnic group of eight volunteers who provide legal and financial advice to homeless people, and tenants facing eviction in West London. They also fight cases of vulnerably housed people whose properties are in disrepair, and support people to access emergency funding. The £500 award will contribute to volunteer costs and office supplies to keep the operation running for five months.
NFA – Natural First Aid for Travellers & their Pets : £212
NFA offer alternative therapies and health remedies to homeless people, Travellers and their pets. Based in a rural Traveller site in Devon, NFA also loan health books to people to enable people to maintain their own health. The £211.14 grant will be used to replenish supplies in their medicine cabinet and purchase a home birthing unit.
Can Booty Can: £500
Can Booty Can are a group of women performance artists based in Warwickshire who do performances to raise money and encourage creativity and expression. Mostly Squatters, Can Booty Can will spend their £500 grant on creating a website and business cards to help promote their work and on costumes for their shows.
Lochaber Routes : £500
Lochaber Routes are a community development project working Gypsies and Travellers in Fort William. In response to recent bullying and racism they are setting up a Home Education project. The £500 will be used to purchase a recycled laptop, educational CD roms, books and materials. These items will be used in a pilot with 6 people and if successful will expanded throughout the community.
Bassline Circus : £500
Bassline Circus are a music based contemporary circus, all artists involved are Squatting or Travelling in the London area. The group are running a series of circus skills and urban arts workshops for young people at community festivals, and the £500 grant will be used to buy more safety and performance equipment.
