Survivors UK have acquired planning permission to build a climatically friendly low impact settlement on the 8.5 acres of land they have in Dorset. The £700 they were awarded will go towards buying trees and plants and renewable technology. Also some may be used to advertise general awareness and to apply for additional funding.
S.A.F.E. (Supportive And Friendly Environment): £700
S.A.F.E. is a group providing support, information and advice to former substance misusers. They also help them develop their social skills to integrate with each other and the local community. Their grant will go toward their group running costs plus purchasing a computer, camera and mobile phone.
P.O.T.S. - People of the Streets: £500
P.O.T.S. is the only organisation helping the homeless on the entire Isle of Wight. They have acquired a shop premises adjoining one of their projects in Newport. Their money will be used to buy two fire extinguishers, a steam press to clean clothes, a cash register and to outfit the shop that will be run by homeless people selling arts and crafts (made by the homeless themselves) and second hand clothes that have been donated. They also plan to have a seating area selling hot and cold drinks. All monies taken will be ploughed back into the business.
SAFEFEST: £700
SAFEFEST are a group of 6 travellers who are setting up a professional security service at festivals. Their grant will pay the company registration, for two of them to get a Security Industry Authority qualification and office and publicity costs. (The other 4 are getting their S.I.A. qualification independently.)
Damien Quigg : £374
Damien has qualified as a holistic massage therapist and gained the necessary public liability insurance to practice. He plans to offer his services to disadvantaged groups who would not normally have access to holistic treatment. His grant will pay for a portable massage chair, massage oils, towels and couch paper.
